Eleanor and Bill
Lachman of Amherst, Massachusetts spent many years breeding many plants
including hosta and daylilies. Their hybridizing efforts have
borne beautiful and very fine daylilies. Visiting their
garden to look over the hundred of blooming seedlings was always a
pleasure. Although they produced hundreds of fine seedlings
through their breeding program, they show extraordinary restraint in
registering only plants that they considered unique, making every one
of their daylilies extraordinary. Their daylilies varieties
are eye-catching stars in our display gardens. Tranquil Lake
Nursery first introduced Lady Liz, Sophie's
Choice and Knight Templar in 1984 and
continued introducing their fine daylilies for the next ten years.
On June 24, 1999,
William H. Lachman died at age 86. During his long career, he taught
Plant and Soils Sciences at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst
for 40 years, retiring in 1976 as Professor
Emeritus. Eleanor and Bill's garden was a popular
site for visitors. Eleanor later donated more than 1,000
plants from their garden to the University of Massachusetts to be
planted around the Morrill Science Center.
The

smaller numbers of a few of these Lachman Daylilies and they will be
offered in future years. We ship healthy double-fan divisions or clumps
(4-5 fans), unless other-wise indicated. Occasionally, low stock
varieties and some new introductions will be shipped as single fans.
Our guarantee still applies.
