Daylilies Hybridized by Daylily Breeder George Pride

Tranquil Lake Nursery introduced Miss Peach, the first of George Pride's tetraploid daylilies in 1972 and continued to introduce his fine daylily hybrids for the next fourteen years.  George retired from working at the Arnold Arboretum and lived in southeastern Massachusetts.  He developed many fine tetraploid daylilies and showed much restraint in selecting only the best for registration.  He was especially interested in red daylilies, polychrome daylilies and early blooming varieties.

The daylilies that are listed below are in good supply. We have smaller numbers of a few of these Pride Daylilies and they will be offered in future years. We ship healthy double-fan divisions or clumps (4-5 fans), unless other-wise indicated. Occasionally, low stock varieties and some new introductions will be shipped as single fans. Our guarantee still applies.

There are other tetraploids of good peach color but I know of few others with as beautifully ruffled and fluted flower parts, as fertile both regarding pollen and seeds and the ability to set up to fourteen pods to a spike with as many as eighteen seeds to a pod even from the very difficult parents. Spikes flower on different length stems giving a bush-like appearance. Miss Peach flowers over a long period because of indeterminate budding which is also rare in a hemerocallis. It will often have five flowers open at a time. Introduced by Tranquil Lake Nursery in 1972.
